‘Planning for Retirement’ addresses the issues most pertinent to individuals in education whether considering retirement within the next few years, having already reached the decision to retire or wishing to prepare well in advance. An informal, relaxed atmosphere allows delegates to share their fears and concerns amongst their peers realising that they are ‘not alone’ in facing this challenge.

The feedback from previous courses has been universally positive (please see evaluations and testimonials) and most delegates attend on the basis of recommendation. Course numbers are restricted to ensure integration and interaction.

The one-day course addresses the following issues:

  • Ensuring financial security for retirement
  • Teachers’ Pension Scheme and proposed changes
  • Actuarially Reduced Benefits
  • Premature Retirement
  • Retirement through ill health and redundancy
  • Improving retirement income
  • Maximising State Pension and other benefits
  • Money management and budgeting
  • Reducing your Inheritance Tax liability
  • Health
  • Changing relationships
  • Use of time
  • Paid work after retirement

Whilst addressed on the full day seminar, it is impossible in the time allocated within a hectic school schedule to explore considerations such as changing relationships and maintaining good health. As this is the case, the focus for an in-school seminar is on financial issues.

The in-school seminar presents delegates with factual information regarding the State Pension and the Teachers’ Pension Scheme. Additionally, the presentation provides generic information on the issues most applicable to education personnel including Actuarially Reduced Benefits (ARB’s) additional pension planning and maximising retirement income.
